Preparation
20 min- Mix the diced papaya, pineapple and banana in a large bowl made of an inert material.
- Mix with the freshly squeezed orange juice, then add sugar or honey if needed.
- Serve immediately or place in the fridge for 30 minutes if you prefer to eat the salad very cold (this is recommended on very hot days).
- The papaya, pineapple and orange juice can be prepared several hours ahead, but peel and cut the bananas just before serving to keep them from browning.
- If you want to make a more "drinkable" version of this recipe you can increase the amount of orange juice, and you can turn it into a salad for adults by adding a little rum or cachaça (a Brazilian sugarcane spirit). I have not yet dared to do it, but I am very tempted even though I would feel I was corrupting one of my favorite childhood recipes from South America.
